Mad Men, Modern Family vie for top spots at 2011 Emmy Awards

And the award goes to whom?
Once again, stylish 1960s advertising drama Mad Men and mockumentary comedy Modern Family will defend their respective titles at the 2011 Emmy Awards Night scheduled on September 18, 2011.
Mad Men, who won the Emmy award for Best Dramatic Show, got 19 nominations for this year including Best Drama Series, Best Actor for John Hamm, and Best Actress for Elisabeth Moss. It will go head to head with other contenders in the best drama series race which include HBO’s new prohibition era series Boardwalk Empires which has been nominated for 18 awards, The Good Wife, Game of Thrones, Dexter, and Friday Night Lights.
ABC’s Modern Family, got 17 nominations this year, including mentions for its stars Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, and Sofia Vergara. Other contenders vying for the same awards include first-time nominee Parks and Recreation, The Big Bang Theory, and The Office.
Meanwhile, Fox’s quirky musical comedy Glee, which dominated last year’s Emmy Awards, only got 12 nominations this year, including Best Comedy, Best Supporting Actor for Chris Colfer, and Best Supporting Actress for Jane Lynch.
At the head of the race is HBO’s miniseries Mildred Pierce with 21 nominations including mentions for Kate Winslet and Evan Rachel Wood, making HBO the most nominated network at this year’s awards with a total of 104 nominations. CBS is the second most nominated network with 50 total nominations while NBC comes in third with 46 total nominations.
