Fans flock to London for final Harry Potter film
London, United Kingdom – Despite the threat of rain, hundreds of fans from all parts of the world have converged into London’s Trafalgar Square for the premiere of the last of the Harry Potter films scheduled on Thursday, July 14, 2011.
The premiere of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” will be celebrated with a lavish event in central London as Harry, Ron, and Hermoine work their magic for one last time on the big screen in their quest to rid the world from Lord Voldermort in what is promised to be a spectacular climax in the Forbidden Forest.
Since the first film was released in 2001, Harry Potter has become one of the most successful franchise in the film industry, and is considered as a cultural phenomenon that has captured audiences from across the globe.
Film critic Wendy Lloyd attributes the success to author J. K. Rowling who had managed to maintain the momentum of the plot and the action, and carry the characters from their adolescence up to leaving Hogwarts.
“Its been a phenomenal journey for all the characters involved,” she adds.
For many die-hard fans, the final installment to the Harry Potter franchise is a bittersweet moment that will never happen again.
“It’s like the end of our childhood, literally,” one group of female fans told Al Jazeera. “We’ve grown up with [the Harry Potter films]. Now, we’re all adults and it’s the end.”
The worldwide release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is set on Friday, July 15, 2011.
